Ankit slams hat-trick in hockey

LUCKNOW:Ankit Prajapati struck a hat-trick as Sports College ‘A’ defeated Sports Authority of India 5-2 in the 1st Rising Star Sports Foundation’s Under-18 Boys Invitation­al Hockey Tournament, at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium here on Sunday.

Ankit, who struck the first goal in the 22nd minute, struck consecutiv­e goals in the 37th, 38th and 59th minute to notch up a fascinatin­g hat-trick in the final match. Saurabh Anand netted the other goal for the winners in the 28th minute, whereas Shardanand Tiwari scored a brace for the SAI.

The winners were awarded with Rs 25,000, whereas runners-up pocketed Rs 15,000. Special cash awards and hockey sticks were also given to the players, who excelled in different capacities. They included, Uttam, Ankit Prajapati, Vikas Gaur, Shardanand Tiwari, Amir and Ajay.

BAJPAI EXCELS

Top seed Devendra Bajpai justified his seeding by emerging the champion at the Pt Adhir Dubey Memorial Chess Tournament with 5.5 points to his credit. Devendra defeated Prithvi Singh in the sixth and the final round. Pawan Batham, Punnet Gurnani and Krishan finished second, third and fourth, respective­ly. Aryan Pandey in under-12, and Prithvi Singh in under-16 stood top.

EASY WIN

ABFC defeated Mamta Club by 2-0, whereas Sports College Ex-Students beat Awadh Club by 4-1 in the District Football League 2018, at the Chowk Stadium here on Sunday. Abhishek netted both the goals in the first match, whereas Imran and Saddam shared four goals between them for the winners in the second match.
