Four more die in Kanpur

KANPUR: Four more people died in rain related incidents in Kanpur and adjoining areas on Monday, taking the toll to 11 since Wednesday.

The downpour caused unpreceden­ted water-logging and road cave-ins in Kanpur City and Dehat areas that affected the traffic. Power supply also remained disrupted in many areas as trees fell on the overhead cables and transforme­rs developed technical faults.

Train movement also remained affected. At Roora in Kanpur Dehat, Sampurna Kranti was stranded due to heavy rains.

In Raipurva, a part of the second storey of a 25-year-old house collapsed in the noon but no casualty was reported.

Three persons including two girls and an elderly lady died in different incidents while six others were serious injured in a house collapse in the rural area on Monday during heavy rain.

In Haswa village in Kanpur Dehat, Sabia, 7, died in a house collapse while Ramwati, 70, died as the wall of the house in Kathara village in Rasoolabad collapsed. Ram Sevak, 50, was killed in Nevada village following a wall collapse in Rasoolabad. In Mangalpur village, six persons received serious injuries due to house collapse. Meanwhile in Nimu village of Rasoolabad, a snake sneaked into a house and bit two sisters Tikoli, 15, and Himani, 12. Tikoli died on her way to hospital while Himani’s condition was stated to be critical. In Uttaripura village of Kanpur Dehat. a police post was submerged in water and staff members had a tough time protecting the records.

People staged a road block in Shivali in protest against water-logging on Derapur Road due to which vehicles were stranded.

Heavy water-logging added to woes of people. The constructi­on of flats under the Prime Minister’s scheme in Mahavir Nagar in Panki had to be stopped as the dug up area was inundated in the absence of proper drainage system.
