6 police teams, STF chasing killer

Assailant’s sketch released, ₹50,000 reward announced for tipoff

LUCKNOW: Six police teams and the special task force have been assigned the task of arresting the miscreant involved in the sensationa­l loot and murder outside the Raj Bhawan Colony on Monday.

Director General of Police OP Singh on Monday evening constitute­d six police teams and also engaged the STF to nab the miscreant who looted ₹6.44 lakh cash from the van of Securitran­s India Private Limited, a private cash collection agency, and shot dead its gunman Indra Mohan.

An intensive checking drive was launched at all bordering areas of the state capital.

As similar incidents of loot from cash vans have been reported in the state capital earlier also, the DGP has issued directives to reopen all such incidents reported in the past 10 years. The DGP has also issued orders to arrest all suspects of previous incidents.

“We have got valuable inputs related with the crime. The miscreant will be arrested soon,” said DGP Singh.

Cops are also quizzing van driver Ram Sewak, who was slightly injured in the incident, for any input which may be of help .

KILLER’S SKETCH RELEASED

The Lucknow police on Monday night released a sketch of the killer. On the basis of the account given by a passerby Prabhakar Pandey who had a scuffle with the assailant, cops released the sketch. According to cops, the assailant is thin and short. He was wearing black trousers and white shirt and did not cover his face while carrying out the sensationa­l loot and murder.

SSP ANNOUNCES ₹50,000 REWARD FOR INPUT

Senior superinten­dent of police Kalanidhi Naithani announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 to anyone providing informatio­n about the assailant that would lead to his arrest.

FAKE NUMBER PLATE

Meanwhile, the regional transport office informed cops that UP 32 GK 7022, the numb4r of the bike which the assailant was riding, was of a non-geared scooter. According to cops, the assailant used a fake number plate to evade identifica­tion.

“Criminals use fake number plates on their two-wheelers to misguide police. We were sure that the number plate on the killer’s bike was fake,” said a cop investigat­ing the crime.

NO ONE HELPED MAN WHO FOUGHT KILLER

The entire stretch of the road in front of the Raj Bhawan Colony has high traffic movement through the day.

But when a passerby Prabhakar Pandey was scuffling with the assailant and trying to nab him, hundreds of people remained mute spectators.

“When I was fighting with the assailant, a large number of people were present. They remained mute spectators,” said Pandey.

In the scuffle, the miscreant also dropped his firearm, but he immediatel­y zipped out another pistol. “If someone from the public had stepped out to help me, I would have managed to nab the killer,” added Pandey.

A large number of people were also present outside the Axis Bank. But no one stepped forward to help Pandey fight the assailant.
