Advocates stage protest against police

-

LUCKNOW: A fortnight after an advocate was assaulted by two people, over 50 advocates staged a protest against the police on Monday for failing to arrest the accused. “We wanted to take out a peaceful rally till the chief minister’s residence with our appeal to ensure police action in the matter,” said Nripendra Pandey, a former office-bearer of the Central Bar Council, who participated in the protest rally. Reportedly, advocate Abhishek

Singh was manhandled by two persons on July 16. Singh registered a police complaint in Qaiserbagh police station . Police lodged an FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC on the basis of the complaint. “Even after two weeks since the FIR was lodged, police have not arrested the accused. The protest rally was taken against this lax attitude of the police,” Pandey said. Police stopped the advocates near GPO to prevent them from proceeding towards the CM’s residence. A senior administrative official also met the advocates to hear their demand. “We handed a memorandum to the officials and terminated the rally on the assurance that swift action will be taken against the accused in the case,” informed Pandey. Meanwhile, station house officer (SHO) of Qaiserbagh police station said that his team was investigating the case. “The accused in the case have been identified and required action will be taken against them. The accused will also be arrested if needed,” he said .
