HC dismisses PIL seeking medical staff on long-distance trains

-

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking directions to provide emergency medical aid to passengers/patients by appointing medical staff, including doctors, on long-route trains.

A division bench of chief justice Dilip B Bhosale and justice Vivek Chaudhary passed the order last week on a PIL filed by a local lawyer ML Yadav.

The petitioner also sought a direction to establish primary health centres at every big railway station to provide medical aid in emergencies to the passengers and other persons.

The court said the petitioner had not done any homework nor did he approach the railway department to find out whether the facilities/ amenities prayed for were already provided and were really necessary.

The court observed that the only document relied upon by him for filing this petition was a newspaper cutting dated July 12, 2012.

“In the circumstances, we are not inclined to entertain this petition,” the court said, dismissing it.
