Property bought in my name by NRI sister: St Andrews’ principal
GORAKHPUR: After a section of the media reported that the vigilance department was planning to file a disproportionate assets case against him, JK Lal, principal of St Andrews College, claimed he was innocent.
Lal, who has been heading the Christian missionary-run college for 10 years, said.
“Punish me if I am guilty. If I am wrong, I do not have the right to hold the principal’s position any more.
He clarified that the property mentioned in media reports in connection with the vigilance department’s move were purchased in his name by his NRI sister and he only held the power of attorney.
“They should be happy as foreign money is coming to our country this way,” he said.
In 2014, a Siddharthnagar resident filed a complaint with the vigilance department against JK Lal, alleging the principal had amassed wealth and got properties, such as plots, flats and shop registered, in the name of his wife and his son.
Superintendent of police, vigilance, Kush Singh had told the media recently “After permission from the government, we are preparing to lodge a disproportionate assets case against the principal.”
The process to prosecute him began soon after the principal made a police complaint against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers, alleging that members of the right-wing student body barged in to his office and beat up teachers and
staff.
The incident took place when the staff allowed only a few workers to meet the principal in his office to hand over a memorandum about corruption.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers accused the principal of being involved in corruption and charging a huge amount for direct admission to under graduate and postgraduate courses, sidelining meritorious students.
