Ground breaking ceremony an exhibition of industrialists: Cong

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Monday called ground breaking ceremony held to launch projects worth over Rs 60,000 crore an “exhibition of industrialists” and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to cover up his failures with such programmes.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Raj Babbar said Modi, who had promised two crore jobs earlier, rubbed salt on wounds of the unemployed youth as the projects launched at the Sunday’s ground breaking ceremony proposed to create only two lakh jobs.

Babbar said Modi was indulging in theatrics to evade questions on various issues and Congress president Rahul Gandhi had exposed him. The PM was trying to use a ‘bimar’ (a person who is not keeping well) as a witness in his favour to cover up failures, said Babbar.

The UP Congress chief said the PM used theatrics to say he was a “bhagidar” and evaded questions.

Did any prime minister in the past cancel a contract awarded to a public sector undertaking (PSU) for manufacturing fighter planes and give it to private company, asked Babbar in a reference to the Rafale deal. The private company did not have the expertise in manufacturing fighter planes, said Babbar.

“India’s (GDP) growth rate has come down considerably from 6% during the UPA government’s tenure,” said Babbar, adding the condition of farmers had deteriorated further and there were reports of suicide committed by them.
