KANPUR: A critically ill man died when the ambulance in which he was being rushed to the hospital was stranded in a traffic blockade by villagers agitated over poor flood management in Bithoor.

The villagers were protesting over incidents of house collapse and flooding in villages in and around Bithoor, which is close to a surging Ganga.

They alleged that the authorities were not serious about the flood-like situation.

According to villagers, the overflowing water of Chaubepur canal entered the villages and caused heavy damage to property and livestock. As the protest was on, the ambulance ferrying one Rajjan, 40, of Bithoor, to Rama Hospital got stuck in the road blockade. Worse still, even the alternative routes were flooded.

“Rajjan had breathing problem and timely medical assistance could have saved his life,” said his son Kishan Pal.

Sachendi and Panka area of the city also faced a flood-like situation due to overflowing water of Pandu river.

Meanwhile, the water level in Shuklaganj touched 111.82 m level, which was 1.18 m away from the warning point, said

Apart from flooding, there were incidents of road cave-in at different places. A 15-metre chunk of the newly laid Galla Godam road in Jajmau caved in on Thursday causing panic in the locality.
