LUCKNOW: With the state government likely to approve the DPR of the east-west corridor of Lucknow Metro in the naer future, work on this stretch is expected to take off soon.

If state government sources are to be believed, permission for work on the east-west corridor is expected by the end of this month or in the first week of next month.

The detailed project report (DPR) for Lucknow Metro’s 12.8-km east-west corridor from Charbagh to Vasantkunj was ready and had sent to the state government, from where it would go to the central government for approval, said a state government official on condition of anonymity. The route will cover densely populated areas like Naka Hindola, Aminabad, Chowk, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Musabagh and Vasant Kunj.

The plans for shifting utility services and traffic management have been prepared.

The east-west corridor project is more challenging than the north-south corridor because the route will pass through busier and narrower places.

So the digging for seven underground stations would be tough.

But the LMRC had already identified all the problem areas and prepared a list of solutions, said an LMRC official.

LMRC MD Kumar Keshav said the LMRC planned to start Metro operations on this route in 2023, but if the state and centre took longer time than expected to clear the project, it could be delayed beyond 2023.

Meanwhile, the work on northsouth corridor is on in full swing.

The LMRC officials are confident of completing the Charbagh to Munshipulia corridor before March 2019.

THE EASTWEST CORRIDOR PROJECT IS MORE CHALLENGING THAN NORTHSOUTH CORRIDOR BECAUSE THE ROUTE WILL PASS THROUGH BUSIER AND NARROWER PLACES
