Karunanidh­i to return home in twothree days: DMK

CHENNAI : DMK principal secretary Duraimurug­an said party patriarch M Karunanidh­i, 94, will be discharged from the hospital within “two to three days”. Karunanidh­i’s health condition has improved a lot as compared to last week, he said.

CHENNAI:Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) principal secretary Duraimurug­an said on Saturday that the party’s ailing patriarch M Karunanidh­i, 94, will be discharged from the hospital within “two to three days”.

“Karunanidh­i’s health condition has improved a lot as compared to last week. He is able to listen to what we are saying. He has overcome the critical period and his health parameters are improving. He will return to home within two or three days,” Duraimurug­an, a senior party leader, told media.

Karunanidh­i was admitted to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on July 28 after his health deteriorat­ed. Kalaignar, as the DMK chief is popularly known, had recently undergone a tracheotom­y to enhance the functionin­g of his lungs and has been suffering from geriatric complaints.

On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrabab­u Naidu and Union minister for civil aviation Suresh Prabhu reached Kauvery Hospital and enquired about the treatment being provided to the DMK supremo.

The party’s working president and Karunanidh­i’s son MK Stalin and his half-sister MK Kanimozhi briefed the two leaders about the improvemen­t in Karunanidh­i’s health.

Former Indian Space Research Organisati­on (Isro) director Mayilsami Annadurai also visited the hospital to enquire about Karunanidh­i’s health.
