Kanwarias block NH 58 after mishap RUCKUS

A group of devotees goes berserk after PAC patrol vehicle hits two motorcycle­borne kanwarias

MEERUT : A group of kanwarias went berserk on National Highway 58 near Daulrala town on Friday night after a vehicle of PAC hit two motorcycle-borne kanwarias.

The angry kanwarias damaged the patrol vehicle of PAC and staged road blockade for hours. They also got engaged in scuffle with cops who reached the spot to control the situation.

The injured kanwarias were admitted to district hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

SP (city) Ranvijay Singh said their family members have been informed. The incident occurred late on Friday night near Validpur village of Daurala area. Dinesh and Jogindra of village Chobla in Jani area were going to Haridwar on their motorcycle when they were hit by patrol vehicle of PAC coming from the opposite side. The duo sustained serious injuries. The cops escaped from the spot after a group of angry kanwariyas gathered there.

They overturned the vehicle and damaged it and a few of them also made a futile attempt to torch it. The angry devotees blocked the traffic on NH 58.

Later, a heavy police force rushed to the spot along with SP (city) Ranvijay Singh and SP (rural) Rajesh Kumar and the

injured were shifted to district hospital for treatment. The angry kanwarias were demanding action against the cops and they withdrew the stir after much persuasion and assurance of initiating action against the errant cops. Meanwhile, SP (city) said that instructio­ns have been issued to officials and cops on duty to ensure that no other commuters use the lanes meant for kanwarias and all cuts on roads should be closed to protect mingling of local traffic with the kanwarias.

KANWARIA KILLED IN ACCIDENT

A bike-borne kanwaria was killed after being run over by a vehicle near Mansurpur on the Delhi-Haridwar highway in muzaffarna­gar, police said on Saturday.

TRAFFIC TO BE DIVERTED FOR BALKESHWAR FAIR

The administra­tion has chalked out a route diversion in view of the coming second Monday of ‘Shrawan’ month. Traffic on the national highway connecting the nation capital with the state capital would remain affected from Sunday evening and would be diverted through Yamuna Express Way. The e-way would remain unaffected but have more vehicle pressure till Monday. The second fair of ‘Sawan’ month is to be organised at Balkeshwar Temple in Agra.

Traffic coming from Kanpur and Firozabad would be diverted from Chalesar towards Yamuna Express way, while the traffic coming from Delhi would pass through Gokul Barrage, Sadabad and Hathras.
