LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday announced a major infrastructure development push for Lucknow. The plan unveiled by him in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath included four new elevated roads/flyovers, a 104-km outer ring road, redevelopment of three railway stations – Charbagh, Gomti Nagar and Alamnagar, and enhancing the airport passenger handling capacity of Amausi airport. Rajnath said the major development thrust, which includes improved roads, drainage, power, water and travel facilities would pitchfork Lucknow into the league of most developed cities.

The plan unveiled by him in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath included four new elevated roads/flyovers, a 104-km outer ring road, redevelopment of three railway stations – Charbagh, Gomti Nagar and Alamnagar, and enhancing the airport passenger handling capacity of Amausi airport.
Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath said the major development thrust, which includes improved roads, drainage, power, water and travel facilities would pitchfork Lucknow into the league of most developed cities.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of union home minister the kind of development BJP government has done in just about 15 months is enough to unnerve the opposition. We are committed to developing Lucknow as the best capital of the country,” said Adityanath.
Union home minister said elevated roads worth Rs 414 crore were part of the plan to decongest Lucknow roads. These roads would come up at points where traffic congestion makes travelling a nightmare from Lalkuan to Rajendra Nagar, Haiderganj crossing to Meena Bakery crossing, Haiderganj crossing till Tulsidas crossing.
Additionally, a two-lane elevated road linking the airport to Shaheed Path was sanctioned. Rajnath repeatedly thanked Adityanath and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya for taking up development work of the state capital.
“The kind of infrastructure push Lucknow is witnessing has resulted in increase in air traffic. Against an estimated 23 lakh air travellers in 2013-14, the footfall at the city airport increased to 47 lakh in 2017-18. That is why the project for the all-new Integrated Terminal Building (at a cost of Rs 1,383 crore) would be launched later this month. The building would be ready in three years’ time,” the union home minister said.
Rajnath Singh also announced that the Kukrail flyover, stuck up since long, would be ready by November and widening of Lucknow-Sultanpur highway would be complete by November 2019.
Flyovers were also sanctioned for Sitapur road, Rae Bareli road and Kanpur road on the three high traffic choke points in the state capital.
He said under the smart city project, projects worth Rs 232 crore were underway. These included energy-efficient streetlighting scheme worth Rs 144 crore under which 1.3 lakh streetlights had been replaced, said the union home minister.
“Twenty upper primary schools would be upgraded to model schools with the help of HCL, which has undertaken this activity under its corporate social responsibility plan. Similarly, 1,000 solar lights and submersible pumps too would be made available in Lucknow under the CSR activity,” he added. Rajnath Singh also informed that a proposal to clean Gomti had also been taken up by him.
