ALLAHABAD: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has postponed its Combined State Upper Subordinate (Prelims) Examination-2018, commonly known as PCS (Pre)-2018. The exam which was earlier scheduled to be held on August 19 would now take place on Oct 28.
ALLAHABAD: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has postponed its Combined State Upper Subordinate (Prelims) Examination-2018, commonly known as PCS (Pre)-2018.
The examination which was earlier scheduled to be held on August 19 would now take place on October 28.
The commission has received a record number of 6.5 lakh applications this year and has been forced to re-draft its entire examination centre selection process.
Till 2017, UPPSC used to receive just around 4.5 lakh applications for PCS (Prelims) examination each year.
However, this year there has been an increase of over 45% in the number of applicants.
The 2018 exam is to be conducted for 831 posts amounting to 782 candidates vying for each post on offer.
UPPSC secretary Jagdish, said the commission needed to redraft the entire plan which was not an easy task as it involved meeting district magistrates or the modal officers of additional cities where the commission needs to conduct the examination.
“It was not possible for us to select secure centres, which were road-linked, in the given time frame so we had to postpone the exam,” he added.
This announcement also means that there would also be a delay in Assistant Conservator of Forest/Range Forest Officer Exam-2018 as well because a common Prelims exam was to be conducted for both the posts from this year onwards.
The mains and interviews of ACR/RFO exam would however be held separately.
The posts for which the PCS examination recruits candidates include that of sub divisional magistrates, deputy superintend- ent of police, district horticulture officers, deputy collector, deputy superintendent of police, block development officer, district commandant home guards, treasury officer, manager credit (small industries), manager marketing and economic survey (small industries), executive officer grade-I, commercial tax officer, district basic education officer/associate DIOS and other equivalent administrative posts.
