Flood threat? Rivers flow above danger mark

-

LUCKNOW: The continuing rainfall across the state has led to increase in the water level of many rivers. The Gomti crossed the danger level in Rae Bareli inundating several villages. In Lucknow, Gomti flowed at 105.270 metres whereas the danger level is 109.500 metres. The Sharda flowed above danger mark at Paliyakala in Lakhimpur Kheri whereas the Ghaghra crossed the danger level at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki and Ayodhya in Faizabad. The Ghaghra marooned around two dozen villages in Karnailganj and Tarabganj tehsil of Gonda district on Friday.

LAKHIMPURKHERI: Former minister and senior Congress leader Jitin Prasada on Sunday accused the Yogi Adityanath government of ignoring the flood victims of Kheri. “Chief minister visited Kheri on Saturday as a tourist and did nothing for those hit by floods and erosion,” said Prasada while claiming that the government had promised petromax, medicines, tarpaulin and other relief materials for the flood-affected people but nothing had been given so far.

He said Congress workers, under party’s Pol Khol campaign to be launched from Tuesday, would visit the flood-affected villages to expose the false promises made by the UP government.

Prasada also assailed the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and said it only believed in making big promises. On NRC, he said, the NRC programme in Assam to tackle illegal migrants was initiated during the Rajiv Gandhi government. “While Rajiv Gandhi signed Assam accord, Manmohan Singh government deported over 80,000 illegal migrants. The BJP, which is talking much about the issue now has been able to deport only 18,000 illegal migrants during its four-year regime,” he said.

Prasada was also felicitated by local Congress workers on being nominated the member of CWC , the top policy making body of the party. He thanked the district chief Raghvendra Bahadur Singh, Iqbal Ahmad, Deepak Bajpai, Rajiv Agnihotri and other local leaders for the honour. He assured that Congress would soon come to power given the poor performance of the govt.
