Gopalkrishna Gandhi delivers Osama Talha memorial lecture
LUCKNOW: Former West Bengal governor and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, delivered the Osama Talha memorial lecture in Lucknow on Sunday.
The theme of the lecture, organised in the memory of citybased journalist Osama Talha, was ‘Hum Hind Ki Awam’ (We, the people of India).
On the occasion, the Osama Talha Foundation also organised an award ceremony to felicitate journalists for “bold and fearless reporting”.
Addressing the audience, Gandhi, chief guest at the event, highlighted the “ongoing identity crisis” in Assam.

Recounting his discussions with the ‘bidi makers’ of Murshidabad in West Bengal, Gandhi said, “I was surprised to see the Constitution of India in their small hut. To my surprise, their daughter remembered it (Constitution) by heart and narrated it without taking any references from any book.”
Parveen Talha, chairperson of the Osama Talha Foundation, said, “The award function aims to felicitate journalists for bold and fearless reporting. This time we are honouring senior journalists Vinod Dua and Ajit Khare.” She said the objective behind organising the event was to keep alive the memory of Osama Talha through work and activities that were dear to him. “We want to honour Osama’s pride in his profession and his immense faith in the printed word. The foundation also works for the welfare of poor children and orphans,” she said.
Prof Roop Rekha Verma, former vice chancellor (acting) of Lucknow University, was also present at the event.
