Anubhav Shukla lifts snooker title in style
LUCKNOW:Anubhav Shukla (+12) defeated younger but higher ranked Vishwajeet Mohan (+07) 2-1 to become the snooker champion in the Pool Palace Billiards and Snooker Tournament here on Monday.
Both Anubhav and Vishwajeet after nothing up breaks up 28 and 24 in the start, progressed on equal terms with Anubhav leading by two points at 47-45 when only two reds along with coloured balls were left on the table.
Vishwajeet at this stage snooked Anubhav twice to collect 20 points as Anubhav failed to come out of the web and committed fouls. Still, not throwing in the towel Anubhav potted the last red with black as cover alongside yellow and green but missed the brown,
Vishwajeet potted the brown superbly and got lucky with the blue, then he potted the pink to win the first frame by 83-67 points for a 1-0 lead.
The second frame witnessed the tension at its peak as both the players started missing easy shots. Towards the end Anubhav somehow potted the crucial coloured balls to edge pass Vishwajeet and pocket the frame by 73-53 points for a one all score.
In decider Vishwajeet got a golden opportunity to construct a match winning break but failed to pot an easy black after making nine points. That proved to be his last chance as Anubhav unleashed a plethora of good pots to outplay and outclass Vishwajeet 69-31 points and be crowned the snooker champion.
The duo of Ayush and Saurabh outplayed Musa and Anukesh 77-60, 66-39 to win the snooker doubles event. The billiards final between Surya Dev and Saurabh Agarwal will be held on Tuesday.
CRUSHING WIN
Sahara Football Club had a field day at the District Football League-2018 here on Monday as they notched up a convincing 12-0 win against Golden Boys, at the Chowk Stadium. Dinesh and Arjun scored three goals each, whereas Saurabh had a brace. Nitesh, Abhay, Rajesh and Subho shared four goals between them.
In the second match of the day, Army Medical Corps defeated Lucknow Postal 3-0. Sundar scored in the 15th and 32nd minutes, whereas Munna shot the ball home in the 25th minute.
SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Abhishek’s first half solitary goal helped Jagran Public School beat St Mary by 1-0 in the Inter-School Football Tournament here on Monday. Abhishek netted the all-important in the 23rd minute. In the second match of the day, Manipal School beat Dabble Inter Collage 5-0. Nischay, Priyanshu, Ritesh, Harshit and Shashank scored a goal each.
SELECTION TRIALS
Trials to pick up district/ regional junior boys kabbadi team will be held on August 9 and 10, at the Chowk Stadium here. Later, the team will participate in state championship to be held at Faizabad from August 16 to 18.
