At-least 26 women were found missing from two shelter homes in Pratapgarh during a surprise inspection by district magistrate Shambhu Kumar on Wednesday, officials said.

A team headed by the DM first inspected a women shelter home in Achalpur. The shelter’s records showed 15 women registered in the documents, but 12 of them were not present there. The CCTV cameras were also found missing from the shelter. The team then inspected Swadhar Jagriti Grih at Ashtbhuja Nagar where 17 women were found registered in the documents. However, 14 of them were not present during the inspection. The manager Rama Mishra told the team that the women had gone out for some private work, officials said.
