NEW DELHI : The SC on Wednesday warned that Amrapali Group directors will be rendered homeless if they “play smart” with the court. A bench of justices Arun Mishra and UU Lalit told Amrapali’s advocate, Gaurav Bhatia: “The real problem is that you have delayed giving possession of homes. Don’t try to play smart or we will sell each and every property of yours and render you homeless.”

NEWDELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday warned that Amrapali Group directors will be rendered homeless if they do not act “appropriately” or “play smart” with the court.

A bench of justices Arun Mishra and UU Lalit told Amrapali’s advocate, Gaurav Bhatia, that the court would not allow the company to collect money from the hassled homebuyers and directed the real estate group to submit a list of its properties that can be sold to raise funds to complete its unfinished projects.

“The real problem is that you have delayed giving possession of homes. Don’t try to play smart or we will sell each and every property of yours and render you homeless. Like you made these people (homebuyers) wait, you will have to look for homes too. We will sell each and every thing of yours,” Justice Mishra warned and added “day is not far when we will do it.”

The bench got irked after Bhatia furnished a list of properties that could fetch ₹400 crore. And when the court asked him how much money was needed to complete the unfinished projects, Bhatia said ₹4,000 crore.

“You are giving us a proposal of just ₹400 crore against the expected cost of ₹4,000 crore for completing pending projects. You are actually acting smart. When you are before the court, you have to be sincere and upright. The day is not far when you will compel us to sell your properties,” Justice Mishra added.

The court also sought details of immovable and movable properties of managing directors and directors of the group along with their valuation report within 15 days.

The group also has to provide on affidavit details of bank accounts of each director and the group companies operational since 2008.

A week was given to file a concrete proposal for raising the funds.

As per the last court order, the projects would be completed by National Buildings Construction Corporation India Limited.
