Road proposed over Haidar canal to decongest Hardoi rd
TABLED LDA presents proposal to Keshav Varma, adviser, UP government
LUCKNOW: In a move that will help decongest traffic on Hardoi road and several other localities of the city, a road over Haidar canal, connecting Agra-Lucknow expressway to Gomti Nagar via Lohia path, has been proposed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).
A proposal in this regard was presented to Keshav Varma, adviser, UP government, at a meeting on Wednesday.
“Haidar canal starts near the expressway and culminates at river Gomti near the 1090 crossing. A road over it could turn out to be a game changer in streamlining the city’s traffic,” said an LDA official.
“It can help in decongesting traffic in areas such as Hardoi road, Rajajipuram, Charbagh, Naka Hindola, Pan Dariba, Udaiganj, Hussainganj, Mall Avenue and Lohia path,” he added.
About a decade ago, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) had also planned a road over Haidar canal, but the idea could not take shape due to fund crunch, said corporator Girish Mishra.
“If the road on Haidar canal becomes a reality, around 10 lakh population residing in localities from Rajajipuram to Gomti Nagar will benefit,” he said.
City engineer SK Jain said the proposed road would decongest Charbagh, Naka Hindola, Hussainganj and Udaiganj where chock-a-block traffic was seen throughout the day.
Meanwhile, work on three flyovers -- Hussainganj-Rajendra Nagar, Haiderganj trisection-Rajajipuram and Bazar Khala-Charak Pathology in Chowk -- would begin next week, said officials.
Former municipal commissioner Diwakar Tripathi, who represents Lucknow MP and union home minister Rajnath Singh, said, “The work will mainly be performed during the night, for the ease of the public. Hussainganj route is used daily by over five lakh people who will benefit from this flyover. A flyover from Haiderganj to Rajajipuram is also a must for the residents of Rajajipuram, Para and Buddeshwaram. The flyover from Bazar Khala to Charak Pathology will ease traffic on Nakhas road.”
Officials informed that the Hussainganj-Rajendra Nagar flyover would be 2.45km-long and would be constructed at a cost of ₹126.81 crore.
The flyover’s design had been finalised, they said.
The Haiderganj-Rajajipuram flyover would be 1.1km-long and would cost ₹49 crore, while the Bazar Khala flyover would be 2.54km-long and would cost ₹128 crore.
The UP State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC) would construct all the flyovers, said officials.
