THOUSANDS OFFER JALABHISHEK IN MUZ’NAGAR
MUZAFFARNAGAR: A joyous atmosphere prevailed in the district with people turning up at temples in hordes to offer ‘jalabhishek’ to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Shivratri on Thursday. Although ‘jalabhishek’ by kanwarias was started at 12 midnight on Wednesday, till late Thursday evening fast moving dak kanwars were seen passing through the district. At Shiva Chowk, a long queue of kanwariyas with Gangajal was seen on one side of the road while fast moving dak kanwars kept moving on the other side. The Shiva Idol at Shiv Chowk (commonly known as Shiva Murti) has a great religious significance among the residents of the district. Sushil Sharma, an office-bearer of Shiv Murti Sanchalak Mandal, informed that every year more than 70 lakh kanwariyas passed through Shiva Chowk, where the Kanwar Yatra divided into two streams. Every Kanwariya compulsorily made ‘Parikrama’ ( circumambulation) of Shiv Murti.
“Due to regular worship, this idol at Shiv chowk has become the siddhpeeth of Lord Shiva and every year many devotees come here to worship and get their wishes fulfilled,” he said. A heavy crowd of Shiva devotees also worshipped Lord Shiva at Bhoron Ka Mandir, Luxmi Nayaran Temple, Ganesh Dhaam, Balaji Dhaam and other temples. Thousands of devotees also offered jalabhishek at the famous Shiva temple in Sambhalhera village here. In this village, there is a big Shivlinga bearing 10 small shivlings, made of touch stone.
