Sahara Estates in football league semis

LUCKNOW : Favourites Sahara Estates stormed into the quarterfin­als of the District Football League-2018, defeating Army Boy Football Club 3-1, at the Chowk Stadium here on Friday.

Though Abhishek put ABFC into lead in the third minute with a triangular shot, Sahara Estates managed to score three goals thereafter, thus winning the match at ease.

Dinesh scored equalizer in the 20th minute, whereas Subho and Arjun netted a goal each in the second half. It was a story of missed chances for ABFC as they failed to cash on the opportunit­ies after having a lead. On the contrary, Sahara Estates kept their nerves under control and mauled the opposition with some accurate attacks in the second half.

SINGH SHINES

Agandeep Singh struck a brace as Sharshtra Seema Bal (SSB) outplayed Sports College 3-0 in the opening league match of the Vijendra Singh Lucknow Hockey League, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid Stadium here on Friday.

Playing an aggressive hockey from the very start of play, SSB men kept the rivals at bay. However, Singh scored in the 46th and 57th minute after Sandeep Kumar opened the account in the 20th minute. In other match of the day, National College crushed Chowk Stadium Trainees by 4-1 after leading by 2-0 in the first half. They scored goals on regular intervals.

SELECTION TRIALS

The under-16, under-19 and under-23 women’s teams trials will be held in the last week of this month at the Kamla Club Ground in Kanpur under the auspices of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Associatio­n. SALONI IN QUARTERS

Saloni Bansal of Lucknow made it to the youth girls’ quarterfin­als at the 2nd UP State Ranking Table Tennis Championsh­ip, defeating Ankita Gupta of Ghaziabad 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 in Ghaziabad on Friday. But in the third round of the sub-junior boys, Lucknow’s Divyansh Gupta lost to Akshat Tyagi of Ghaziabad 8-11, 8-11, 2-11.
