LUCKNOW/AGRA: A general alert has been sounded across Uttar Pradesh on the eve of Independence Day.

The police have refused permission to Tiranga Yatra in Kasganj where a similar yatra on the Republic Day had created communal strife that claimed the life of a youth and left a few injured. DGP OP Singh said the police were maintaining a tight vigil in Kannauj and Kasganj where heavy police presence had been ensured.

In Kasganj, we have two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF).

“Independence Day is a national festival and we are committed to ensuring that the festival is celebrated with enthusiasm. There is no cause for any alarm but we are maintaining a tight vigil against antisocial elements as well as terror suspects,” Singh said.

The police and Rapid Action Force also carried out a flag march in Kasganj on Tuesday to deter youths from carrying out Tiranga Yatra.

Police force from Aligarh,

Etah and Hathras has been moved to Kasganj to maintain peace.

‘We have two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF),” said Ajay Bhadoria, PRO of superintendent of police, Kasganj.

District magistrate RP Singh confirmed that Tiranga Yatra had been banned in Kasganj. More than 200 persons have been bound under section 116 sub section 3 of Criminal Procedure Code. However, leaders of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal (Pravin Togadia group) have challenged

the ban and threatened to go ahead with their plan.

Govind Parashar, the division head for Rashtriya Bajrang Dal said the ban on Tiranga Yatra was “unjustified.”

“If there is no ban on processions like one on Moharram that Muslims take out then why is there a ban on Tiranga Yatra on the Independence Day”? Parashar asked.

“We would have ‘tiranga’ yatra from Shaheed Nagar to Kehrai turn in Agra on Independence Day and if it is not allowed than we would oppose future processions on Moharram in the city,” he threatened.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad which took out ‘Tiranga Yatra’ all over Braj prant after killing of the youth on R-Day in Kasganj is maintaining a low profile this time. But, VHP’s Braj region chief Sunil Parashar condemned the ban imposed on Tiranga Yatra in Kasganj.

“We condemn the ban,” he said. Meanwhile, markets would remain closed in Kasganj on the Independence Day. Kasganj administration clarified is aimed at allowing shopkeepers to be a part of Independence Day festival.
