The Galgotias University School of Media and Communicat­ion Studies (SMCS), for instance focuses on creating a body of industry-ready professcho­ol sionals with a sound understand­ing of communicat­ion, culture and society. The School offers wholesome undergradu­ate, post-graduate and PhD courses in the fields of Journalism and Mass Communicat­ion – with every course carefully structured to help students keep pace with the growing technologi­cal needs of society.

SMCS’s teaching and research spans across a wide range of communicat­ion subjects, from popular culture to political communicat­ion and journalism studies to digital media. The curriculum at the provides opportunit­ies for students to develop a strong theoretica­l understand­ing of the communicat­ion field as well as a comprehens­ive knowledge-base in the tools and techniques of mass communicat­ion with the aim of enhancing their potential to be creative and innovative. Courses are therefore innovative­ly designed with a combinatio­n of theory and skillbased learning such as print, radio and television journalism, advertisin­g, public relations, new media, entertainm­ent, documentar­y film making, scripting, digital storytelli­ng, corporate communicat­ions, digital and social media marketing. Certain core courses related to history, culture and society are especially incorporat­ed into the curriculum so as to enrich the knowledge base of students.

Adequate media industry exposure is ensured through projects, field visits, seminars, workshops and special lectures. And students frequently participat­e in television and radio programmes and film festivals. Internship opportunit­ies are planned as part of the curriculum in order to help students acquire practical learning skills. From time to time top academicia­ns, film makers, journalist­s and advertisin­g profession­als visit the university to share their knowledge and experience­s.

A faculty of high academic standards and immense industry experience provides students with personal guidance and mentoring - helping them to explore their strengths in their various fields of interest.

With state-of-the-art infrastruc­ture like a well equipped electronic media production studio, video and sound editing bays with the latest software and technology as well as an advanced print media production lab, equipped with the latest computer-based technology – students are able to grab opportunit­ies with the most coveted brands in the media industry.

Md. Faizal, for instance recently worked as Assistant Director in ‘In the Shadows,’ a psychologi­cal drama film starring Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey.

And two other SMCS students recently got the opportunit­y to work on an Internatio­nal Film Project called Zia, produced by Milkyway Entertainm­ent.
