Salah reported over using mobile phone while driving

LONDON: Egyptian star Mohamed Salah could be in trouble with police after his club Liverpool passed a video apparently showing him using his mobile phone while driving.

A spokesman for last season’s Champions League finalists said they passed the video, which had circulated on social media, on to police after talking with Salah.

“The club, after discussion with the player, have made Merseyside Police aware of the footage and the circumstan­ces surroundin­g its capture,” said the spokesman cited on the BBC.

“We have spoken to the player also and will deal with any follow-up internally.

“Neither the club or player will be making any further comment on this matter.” Merseyside Police tweeted they had received the footage.

QUITO: Twelve people were killed and 30 injured when a bus carrying fans of Barcelona SC, Ecuador’s most popular football club, crashed Sunday, officials said.

The bus was heading from the southern city of Cuenca to the coastal city of Guayaquil, where Barcelona is based, after a local tournament game.

ZAGREB: Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic has announced his retirement from internatio­nal football after his country reached the World Cup final for the first time.

The Juventus attacker, 32, confirmed he is stepping down from internatio­nal duty in a lengthy social media post released on Tuesday. “The World Cup silver has given me new energy, but it has also made this incredibly difficult decision a bit easier,” he wrote.

“I am more than happy, fulfilled, and extremely proud of this silver, that has been forged through years, through pain, effort, work, disappoint­ment, and difficult moments.

“There is no ideal moment to retire. If possible, we would all play for Croatia until we die, since there is no prouder feeling, but I feel this moment has come for me - now.

JORGE COSTA NAMED MUMBAI CITY COACH

MUMBAI : Former Portugal central defender Jorge Costa was named head coach of Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC on Tuesday, signing a oneyear contract.

Going into the fifth season of ISL, the 46-year-old Portuguese will become Mumbai’s fourth head coach after Peter Reid, Nicolas Anelka and Alexandre Guimaraes.

After playing for Porto for 12 seasons, Costa also has experience as a coach in Europe, such as Portuguese clubs SC Braga and Paços Ferreira, Romania’s CFR Cluj, Greek sides AEL Limassol and Anorthosis Famagusta. He was also in charge of Gabon during 2014-16.
