LUCKNOW: A month after the implementation of the ban on polybags, the district administration will extend the ban to single-use plastic crockery from Friday.

“Our teams will carry out inspections and raid places where plastic crockery is used or sold in each of the eight zones of the city,” said Indramani Tripathi, municipal commissioner, Lucknow, on Thursday.

The action will be in line with the ongoing efforts by the state government to reduce the use of plastic. Like last month, teams of LMC along with UP Pollution Control Board and the local police will implement the ban.

The ban is being implemented as per a statewide notification issued on July 15 this year. The state government also passed an ordinance for ban which was approved by the governor.

As per the notification, ‘manufacture, sale, distribution, storage, transport, import or export of single-use cups, glasses, plates, spoons, tumblers, etc

Apart from the state capital, the raids will also be carried out in other districts of the state. In Bareilly, the raid began from Thursday.

“A team of municipal officials inspected and challenged a trader who was found selling banned plastic items,” said RK Srivastav, municipal commissioner, Bareilly.

Meanwhile, representatives of thermoforming association that represents plastic manufacturers in the district opposed the blanket ban. They also approached the high court against the government’s notification.
