LUCKNOW : Security cover for all metro rail projects in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow Metro, would be provided by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) if the Centre concedes UP government’s request.

In a letter to the central government, principal secretary, home, Arvind Kumar has asked if CISF can take over the security for Lucknow, Noida and Greater Noida and all other upcoming and future metro projects in the state.

CISF looks after the security of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). As of now, the security of Lucknow Metro is being looked after by a special battalion of Provincial Arms Constabulary (PAC).

About 400 security personnel from PAC guard the eight metro stations in Lucknow.

In fact, PAC has raised a dedicated squad of 393 personnel who have been trained by CISF in New Delhi. Another 69 PAC personnel are kept as reserve for any eventuality or to compensate for leaves of the operational force.

Seven company commanders, 42 platoon commanders, 72 head constables, 212 male constables and 60 female constables provide the security cover.

“Round-the-clock security cover is provided by these personnel in three shifts of eight hours each,” said a Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) official.

Apart from frisking, use of scanners and metal detectors, the security personnel also have a dog squad and have been given special training by CISF on how to deal in case of emergency and bomb disposal.
