GORAKHPUR : As the markets are abuzz with activities ahead of Eidul-Azha, animals with special features like unique breed and holy marks on their bodies are attracting buyers.

Salman, a two-horned goat weighing 55 kg with natural marks resembling the word “Allah” written on its body, is up for sale for a whopping ₹5 lakh – the highest price in the market outside Jama Masjid in Gorakhpur’s Ghantaghar area.

Brothers Mohammad Moinuddin and Nizamuddin of Gorakhnath area, who own the goat, said they had been offered the highest amount of ₹2.75 lakh for the animal but they turned it down saying they would not accept less than ₹5 lakh.

“The marks on the goat’s body resemble the name of Allah which makes it more sacred for the purpose of ‘qurbani’ (sacrifice). There is still some time left for ‘qurbani’ and we hope someone will give the right price for Salman,” said Moinuddin.

He added that his mother noticed the holy mark on the body of the goat which is five years’ old. “One day after offering ‘namaz’, my mother noticed the holy black mark on the lower part of the goat’s neck. From that day, Salman was not treated as an ordinary goat but was given special treatment. It has been fed sweets, rotis, parathas, fruits and dry fruits,” he said.

A man who visited the market to buy a goat said: “If not ₹5 lakh, one may easily pay between ₹2 lakh and ₹2.5 lakh for it as Muslims, especially from well off families, readily pay huge amount for animals with such rare and holy features.”
