LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday announced that he and his wife Dimple Yadav would make personal donations to help people affected by floods in Kerala.

He also asked the party workers to devote themselves for helping flood victims of Uttar Pradesh by providing them food, clothes, torches, makeshift living spaces and fodder for cattle.

“My heart goes out to the people of Kerala. My wife & I have decided to make a personal donation to help those in need in Kerala. If you can help in any way, please contribute. Remember the ones who were lost & pray for Keralites who continue to fight,” Akhilesh wrote in a tweet.

In a press statement, Akhilesh said it was in 1924 when Kerala saw such devastating floods. “So far, over 400 human lives have been lost and lakhs have been rendered homeless. UP has also seen a lot of flood devastation,” he said.

He said in Uttar Pradesh, Ghaghara, Sharda, Saryu and Rapti rivers were swollen and hundreds of villages were submerged in water.

“People are stranded in floods and there is a crisis of fodder for animals. There is no milk for children and the government’s relief arrangements are inadequate,” he said.

Attacking the BJP regime in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said his government had made arrangements for flood relief but the present dispensation was not paying any attention to it.

“People are distressed and they will teach a lesson to the BJP in 2019,” he said.

Akhilesh also posted a Hindi song ‘Dekh tere insaan ki haalat kya ho gayi bhagwan’ on Twitter and said it appeared that the song written six decades ago was for the present as there was instability and tension in the country.
