ALLAHABAD: Budding techies and managers of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, (IIIT-A) now have the choice to pursue yoga as part of their studies.

The IIIT-A administration has introduced yoga as an add-on course from this academic session. Worth 2 credits, the course has already attracted 26 students including 18 of B Tech, 7 of M Tech and 1 of MBA.

“The institute has kickstarted by holding special three hour classes every Saturday in the upper lobby of institute’s auditorium. Both theory and practical classes are being held during it. The second such weekly class was held on August 18,” said IIIT-A director P Nagabhushan.

He expressed confidence that the course would prove beneficial for all students to not just remain healthy but also help them deal with daily stress and attain excellence.

The move is in line with an announcement made by Naga- bhushan on the international yoga day on June 21 to introduce yoga course for under graduate and post graduate students of the institute.

“The institute took help of experts to formally prepare a detailed syllabus for this course and it is owing to this preparation only that the yoga course has attracted most number of students as compared to other add-on courses on offer in the institute,” said Pankaj Mishra, the yoga expert running the classes of the course.

He said among the 26 students enrolled for the course there are six girls. “Two of the enrolled students are Muslims,” he added.

“A student opting for this add-on course under the choicebased credit system (CBCS) and completing it successfully would earn 2 credits.
