LUCKNOW: Kanwar yatra across the state concluded peacefully under water tight security on the last Monday of the ongoing sawan season.

Apart from some minor issues in some districts, no major incident was reported from any part of state by the time this report was filed.

Local administrations in districts falling under the route taken by kanwarias remained alert to ensure law and order.

In Bareilly and Moradabad, senior officials personally overlooked arrangement and kanwaria movement.

District magistrate of Bareilly Virendra Kumar Singh said, “Most of the kanwaria movement in the district was between Bareilly and Kachhala ghat in Badaun. The route was cleared for Kanwariyas. Roads leading to temples in the city were also cleared to facilitate kanwaria movement.”

Apart from the state highway connecting Bareilly and Badaun, kanwarias also used national highway 24 which passes though the district and connects the national capital with Lucknow.

The kanwaria movement on NH 24 led to traffic congestion in Moradabad.

“The traffic snarl arose because kanwarias crossed over to the other side of the road. Locals police teams deployed in the area were able to resolve the matter peacefully,” said Ankit Mittal, superintendent of police, Moradabad.

Similar traffic congestions were also reported from Basti, Faizabad, Meerut and Baghpat districts.

While some incidents of violence were reported during kanwaria movement earlier this month, no such incident was reported on Monday.

The situation also remained peaceful in Umariya village of Bareilly where some kanwarias sat on protest on Sunday due to disagreement with the local administration about route.

“The protest was called off with mutual understanding between locals, administration and kanwarias,” informed senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bareilly, Muniraj.
