Man gets death for rapemurder of 14yearold in MP, 11th in six months

BHOPAL: A court in Madhya Pradesh sentenced a 22-year-old man to death on Monday for raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl in Sagar district last year. The state’s director of public prosecutio­n Rajendra Kumar said this was the eleventh case where a court had sentenced a person to death for sexually assaulting a minor this year.

Additional government advocate MD Avasthi, who represente­d the state, said the girl was raped by Rabbu, alias Sarvesh Sen, (22) at Deval village on December 7, 2017. He then poured kerosene over the victim and set her on fire, resulting in her death seven days later, Avasthi added.

The man was booked on charges of rape, murder, house trespass, assault and destroying evidence under the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

“The case was categorise­d as a sensationa­l and heinous offence, and Bhangarh police station in-charge sub-inspector Ravi Bhushan Pathak completed the investigat­ion in 21 days. The challan was presented on December 28, 2017,” Kumar said.

The death sentence was awarded by Bina’s first additional session judge Alok Mishra.

Others who have been awarded death sentences for sexually assaulting minors this year include: Touheed Shaukat for raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl on April 24 in Chhatarpur; Rajkumar Kol for raping a minor student on July 4 in Katni; Bhaggi alias Narayan Patel for raping a nine-year-old girl on May 21, in Rehil, Sagar; Badu alias Prakash Lahase, 34, for raping and killing a woman on May 17 in Burhanpur, and Nandkishor­e Gupta, 20, for sodomising and killing a 13-year-old boy on March 2 in Datia.
