Traffic restrictio­ns lead to congestion in Ganj, other areas

LUCKNOW: Traffic restrictio­ns in the area where a portion of Narang building collapsed on Monday night, led to congestion in Hazratganj and adjoining areas on Tuesday.

The Ganj market, Sikandar Bagh to Ganj stretch and nearby areas remained jammed during the day.

According to traffic police officials, the situation was worst during school hours and later in the evening. They said traffic from Hazratganj intersecti­on was not allowed towards Sikandarba­gh. Instead, vehicles were routed via Golf Club roundabout.

The traffic from Leela Talkies towards JJ Bakers was also stopped to ensure safety near the dilapidate­d building.

Vehicles coming from Ashok Marg towards the Income Tax office were also diverted. So was the traffic from Dunlop road towards Alka trisection on Shahnajaf Road.

“The public was informed in advance about the traffic re-routing in Hazratganj. Additional traffic officials were also deployed at the all entry and exits points of Hazratganj to manage the flow of traffic,” said Madhawa Prasad Verma, superinten­dent of police (traffic).

“The traffic restrictio­ns will remain in force for the next 24 hours. It will be removed only after the clearance of the demolition team,” he added.
