NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old girl, who had approached the police on Tuesday alleging she was kidnapped outside her home in east Delhi and gang-raped by four men for six days at a house in Greater Noida, was found to be five months pregnant due to an earlier sexual assault by one of the suspects, the police said on Friday.

Two of the four suspects, Shahnawaz and Nadeem, who work as labourers at a sewage construction site, have been arrested, said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (north-east). The minor alleged she was kidnapped and taken to a house in Surajpur in Greater Noida, which belonged to Nadeem, on August 15, where she was confined and gangraped for six days by Shahnawaz, Nadeem and two others.

After escaping the house on Tuesday, the victim approached the Surajpur police station. The police then alerted their counterparts in Delhi’s Harsh Vihar.

The police said Shahnawaz lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim. “He would visit her house on the pretext of handing over the keys to his room while leaving for work every day. He had allegedly been raping the girl since then, who was afraid of reporting the crime to her parents,” an investigator said. The police, however, did not specify when the alleged sexual abuse first began.

“When the girl was medically examined, she was found to be five months pregnant but unaware of it,” the investigator said.

“During her interaction with the counsellors, she revealed about the past sexual abuse,” the investigator added.

The police are on the lookout for two other suspects.
