▪ LUCKNOW : The Yogi Adityanath government on Monday presented its first supplementary budget for 2018-2019 in the state assembly, demanding funds for the development of the defence corridor, Jewar Airport and projects to be launched in the memory of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Minister for finance Rajesh Agarwal presented the first supplementary demands of grant for ₹34833.24 crore for 2018-2019, a mini-budget of sorts, (largest in the recent years) brought in to implement development programmes ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

The budget was presented amid disorderly scenes and slogans to protest against the Deoria shelter home incident. The Samajwadi Party and Congress members continued to throng the well of the house demanding a probe by a Supreme Court judge and immediate discussion on the issue.

The Question hour could not be held as the house was adjourned for the day after conducting its listed business amid disorder as Speaker Hridaya Narain Dixit’s repeated requests to restore order failed.

Besides demanding a sum of ₹500 crore for the development of defence corridor along the Bundelkhand Expressway and ₹800 crore for Jewar Airport in Greater NOIDA region, a sum of about ₹25 crore has been earmarked to launch different projects in the name of Vajpayee.

These include ₹10 crore for the development of Vajpayee’s birth place Bateshwar (Agra) and other places to preserve his memories, ₹5 crore and additional ₹1,000 to set up a centre of excellence at DAV College (Kanpur) where Vajpayee received his higher education.

Another demand of ₹5 crore includes ₹1 crore for holding a cultural festival and ₹4 crore for building a memorial complex in former PM’s name.

An amount of ₹20 crore has been demanded to set up Kanha gaushala (cow shelter homes) in urban areas.

Other major demands included funds for development projects in rural areas. A sum of ₹5,500 crore has been demanded for construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

An additional amount of ₹ 1,500 crore has been sought for the implementation of the crop loan waiver scheme.

An additional amount of ₹ 1,385 crore has also been demanded to clear the dues of cane growers.

A sum of ₹800 crore has been demanded for Kumbh Mela while ₹100 crore has been demanded for holding Pravasi Bharatiya Bharatiya Divas from January 21 to 23 in Varanasi.

Earlier the Samajwadi Party, Congress and the BSP rose from their seats soon after the house assembled at 11am and leader of the opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary demanded immediate discussion on the Deoria shelter home incident.

Later, the SP and Congress members entered the well of the house and continued raising anti-government slogans.
