State to engage youth in run-up to mega festival

LUCKNOW: To engage youth in the run-up to Kumbh-2019, the UP government has asked four state universiti­es to organise congregati­ons of youngsters on their campuses in December.

Four educationa­l congregati­ons – ‘Paryavaran Kumbh’, ‘Nari Shakti Kumbh’, ‘Samrasta Kumbh’ and ‘Youth Kumbh’ – have been planned where youths will be engaged in exchanging ideas through ‘vaicharik manthan’ (brainstorm­ing), an official said.

Each of these congregati­ons is expected to attract 3,000-5,000 people from across the country, said the vicechance­llors of these universiti­es.

Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV), Varanasi will organise a ‘Pariyavara­n Kumbh’ on December 2-3, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra will organise a congregati­on themed ‘Nari Shakti Kumbh’ (women’s power) on December 9, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad will host a ‘Samrasta Kumbh’ to promote harmony on December 15-16 and the University of Lucknow and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University will jointly organise ‘Youth Kumbh’ on December 22-23.

To spread awareness among youth for protecting environmen­t, MGKV will organise ‘Paryavaran Kumbh’ from December 2-3.

“We are inviting speakers to give social message on environmen­t issues. The participan­ts will be told as to how the concept of tree worship came into being,” said vice-chancellor Prof TN Singh.

To promote women’s power and showcase their achievemen­ts, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Agra) will organise a congregati­on themed ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) on December 9. The varsity will hold the function ‘Jago Maa, Jagao Maa’ at Akshay Patra in Vrindavan.

Others who will be roped include Hima Das, Indian athlete and Arunima Sinha, the world’s first female amputee to scale Mt Everest, so that people get inspired,” said Arvind Dixit, V-C, Agra university.

Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad will look to promote harmony trough ‘Samrasta Kumbh’ to be held on December 16-17. Vice-chancellor Prof Manoj Dixit said the city of Ayodhya is always known for promoting harmony.

“We are expecting over 3,000 participan­ts. We will prepare a broad outline of the event in a meeting to be held by the month-end,” said Dixit.

The University of Lucknow would hold a ‘Youth Kumbh’ in associatio­n with Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University on December 23-23, said vice-chancellor SP Singh.

Nearly 5,000 people from across the country would part take in this event, he said. “We will organise a meeting to discuss the modalities of the event,” said the V-C.
