Dedicated cattle shelter needed

-

Respected chief minister,

This relates to the utilisation of a large number of cattle let loose. Over the past few years, stray cattle has been a cause of worry among the farmers’ community across UP, because of the inherent fear of their crops being eaten up and destroyed by herds of such animals.

The state government is aware of the problem and has taken steps to solve the same, but the strategy lacks deeper pragmatic approach.

The anxiety among farmers is likely to reach its peak in December 2018/January 2019 when the green wheat crop is in boom.

The other day while driving from Lucknow to Allahabad, I observed that a large number of cattle came on the highway because of waterlogging in neighbouring fields. A careful look revealed that many of these animals were healthy and could be economic assets, if utilised properly.

Hence, I repeat my suggestion that instead of piecemeal work on cattle shelters, urgent and dedicated attention be given to the problem as enumerated in my write-up (January 29, 2018). I had particularly mentioned that only a big project with great efficiency can be successful, for which a large piece of land is available for a pilot project in Rae Bareli.

My recent observations also reinforce my thoughts that such a project undertaken immediately is bound to bring in great economic benefit and create goodwill amongst the masses. To generate deeper thought on the issue, I have written to Vimal Kumar Sharma, secretary of ‘Kalyan Karoti’ (Lucknow), a reputed organisation doing selfless service and also having experience in running a ‘gaushala’ at Vrindavan.

A project of this nature also requires co-operation by UP Co-operative Dairy Federation for marketing of milk produced at the ‘gaushala’ and by UP Electricity Board for disposal of large quantity of electricity that will be produced by ‘gobar gas’ plant. I request you to kindly issue directions so that the useful project gets started without any delay. I may add that I am always available to contribute to any possible efforts for such venture.
