Monitoring cells to pursue pending heinous cases: DGP
LUCKNOW: Director general of police, OP Singh on Monday, issued instructions to all district police chiefs for the formation of monitoring cells to effectively pursue cases of heinous crimes pending in courts.
Each monitoring cell would have an inspector rank officer who will be assisted by a sub-inspector and three head constables. This cell will work under the direct supervision of district police chief, he said while addressing district police chiefs through video conferencing on Monday. The purpose of the monitoring cell is to streamline the investigation process and the hearings of all such important cases related with heinous crimes and dreaded criminals so that justice can be delivered timely and effectively.
The DGP fixed responsibilities of this cell that would be constituted soon.
“This is an additional effort to strengthen law enforcement and it will have no altering impact on the already existing system of the district police chiefs and the duties of SHOs in assisting courts with supervision of cases and other related works,” said the DGP. The district police chiefs will conduct monthly review meetings of the monitoring cell and also consult the district judge in all cases being monitored by the cell so that timely hearings are initiated and warrants are issued to witnesses, who fail to turn up on their hearings. These warrants will then be enforced by the local police.
