LUCKNOW : The Vidhan Parishad on Wednesday pardoned Pilibhit superintendent of police, Balendu Bhushan Singh, in a case related to breach of privileges after the officer tendered an apology before the chairman, Ramesh Yadav, during an in-camera proceeding.

On Tuesday, the Vidhan Parishad chairman passed an order summoning the SP to present his case before the house here on Wednesday at 1 pm. The order came after Samajwadi Party’s Shatrudra Prakash complained that the police officer talked to him rudely when he called him up regarding an FIR lodged at a police station in Pilibhit district. This, he argued, was the breach of privilege. All other members supported the view. The officer was, however, allowed audience in the chairman’s chamber at 10 am, an hour before the house assembled, away from the glare of the press as well as other members.

Yagyadatt Sharma who presided over the proceedings informed members about the chairman’s ruling. Reading out the judgment, he said the Vidhan Parishad chairman convened a meeting in his chamber in the presence of the leader of the opposition Ahmad Hasan and a few other members.

The SP, Pilibhit, he said rendered an oral as well as written apology to the chairman and the members present in the meeting. The members present in the meeting authorised the chairman to take a final call.

“The written apology rendered by SP Pilibhit, Balenddu Bhushan has been accepted,” Sharma said quoting the ruling.

However, Shatrudra Prakash took exception to the SP having rendered the apology in private and not in the house.
