Vidhan Bhawan canteen employee slits his throat, critical

LUCKNOW :While monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha was underway, a 32-year-old employee of VVIP canteen of Vidhan Bhawan building allegedly slit his throat at his work place here on Thursday afternoon.

It triggered panic among the Vidhan Sabha security staff as several VVIPs were present inside the Vidhan Bhawan building at the time of incident.

Police said the victim Ajay Kashyap slit his throat with some sharp-edged weapon inside the canteen premises located near gate number 7 of Vidhan Bhawan.

They said the victim was undergoing treatment at King George’s Medical University’s trauma centre where his condition was stated to be critical till last reports came in.

The police said the reason behind the step taken by the victim was yet to be ascertaine­d.

Circle officer of Hazratganj Abhay Mishra said the victim’s family members said that he was mentally disturbed for the last few weeks.

He said the victim’s coworkers also stated that he was murmuring that God was calling him after slitting his throat with some sharp- edged weapon inside the VVIP canteen.

“Although the police is not allowed in the canteen and the area is guarded by Vidhan Bhawan marshals and its internal security personnel, the canteen staff told the police that Ajay did this act when he was sitting in open space behind the kitchen. The canteen staff rushed him to the civil hospital from where he was later shifted to the trauma centre,” the CO said.

He said Ajay’s father Ram Kailash also works in Vidhan Bhawan as office assistant in the office of Vidhan Sabha principal secretary.
