Dr Souza Road a nightmare for commuters
LUCKNOW : The Dr Souza Road that connects Lalbagh to Odeon crossing, is a nightmare for commuters, for it is full of potholes and craters despite being a busy thoroughfare.
This important road is situated just 100 metres away from the Lucknow Municipal Corporations office at Trilokinath road. But despite being close to the LMC office, Dr Souza Road is in a poor and broken condition for the past one year.
The local residents and traders allege they have made several complaints to the authorities but nothing has been done.
The situation worsens during rain, as there are several manholes which have weak lids and can cave in anytime due to the load of vehicles.
Corporator of the area Sayyed Yawar Hussain Reshu said, “I have pursued the issue of road construction strongly in the LMC house, but not even a single penny has been released. The road braves heavy traffic flow due to traffic diversion caused by the ongoing work of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on Hussainganj road. Due to poor road condition, people battle long traffic jams and sometimes there are accidents.”
Reshu added, “I have written letters to the municipal commissioner for issuing the tender for construction of this road but the municipal chief has not responded .”
Additional municipal commissioner Anil Mishra said, “The road is in poor condition and we are aware of it. We have sent a proposal to the public works department (PWD) for its construction under the State Finance Commission Fund. The tender for the same would be floated soon and the work on the road would start after the rains. Till then, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation will repair the roads for the commuters.”
