Gorakhpur AIIMS to be completed by 2020: CM
GORAKHPUR: Highlighting the achievements of his one-and-ahalf-year-old government, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said 13 new medical college had been set up in Uttar Pradesh while six more were on cards.
He said the under construction 750-bed AIIMS at his home town Gorakhpur would be operatinal by 2020.
“With the help of the centre we will ensure AIIMS at Gorakhpur starts operation to serve patient by 2020,” he said.
The CM, who is on a two-day visit to Gorakhpur on the ocassion of Janmashtmi, was speaking at BRD medical college where he laid foundation stone of a new building of composite rehabilitation center (CRC) and regional medical research center (RMC) .
While the CRC, coming up at the cost of ₹16. 33 crore will be used to rehabilitate encephalitis survivors who generally became disabled under its effect, the ICMR will be used to conduct research on the disease, which claims hundreds of lives every year after onset of monsoon.
Before the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of the two projects at the medical college, a temporary rehabilitation center at Sitapur Eye Hospital was inaugurated by the CM in the presence of Union health minister JP Nadda.
This 21 room temporary rehabilitation center would take care of the treatment need till the under construction CRC becomes ready at the medical college ,
“Over 20- 30% of encephalitis patients die while 50% of those who survives becomes disable. In every village or block such disabled children can be found. I hope such a rehabilitation center will be helpful for those who became disabled,” the CM said.
The CM expressed happiness over media reports that death toll due to encephalitis had dipped sharply this year.
“Some people had not left any stone unturned to diminish the image of BRD medical college but doctors have given a befitting reply to them,” he added .
