GHAZIABAD: A 40-year-old woman died in Vikram Enclave in Sahibabad when the under-construction second floor of a house collapsed and the falling debris hit her on the first floor.

The police said that the family declined to get an autopsy conducted and did not lodge an FIR either. According to officials, the incident took place around 1.30pm, when Parveen was preparing lunch in the kitchen on the first floor of the house, while her husband Mohammad Zaheer and their 17-year-old daughter were on the ground floor.

“The family’s was constructing a structure on the second floor of the house. Due to the poor quality of materials and the continuous rain since Saturday, the under-construction structure on the second floor collapsed,” Dr Rakesh Mishra, circle officer (Sahibabad), said. “As a result, the ceiling of the first floor also collapsed and the debris hit the victim in the kitchen,” he added.

Hearing the noise, Zaheer rushed to the first floor and took the injured woman to GTB Hospital in Delhi where she was declared dead.

The police and the district administration officials also rushed to the spot, but the family declined to get an autopsy conducted.

“They did not file any complaint either. So we allowed them to take the body,” Vivek Mishra, sub divisional magistrate (sadar), said.

“The structure of the house was not proper; it was not supported by beams. That, coupled with poor quality construction material and incessant rain, led to the collapse,” he added.

Zaheer is from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and deals in scrap material.

In another incident late Saturday night, a two-storey house collapsed in Loni’s Ashok Vihar locality.

A family of six saved themselves in the nick of time. Two of them, Islam Khan and his daughter Sehreen, escaped with minor injuries.

According to the police, the incident took place around midnight when Islam and his two sons, Danish and Qasim, were sleeping on the ground floor, while his wife Bundoo and their two daughters, Sehreen and Chandni, were sleeping on the first floor.

“The family suddenly saw plaster falling and rushed out. They were delayed while trying to open the main gate of their house, and the entire building collapsed,” Durgesh Kumar Singh, circle officer (Loni), said. “However, they managed get out of the compound, and Islam and Sehreen escaped with minor injuries. Due to heavy rain, there was waterlogging in several vacant plots near the house and its walls collapsed as a result,” he added.

This was the second incident in two days — that of a building collapsing in Loni after heavy rain in Ghaziabad on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday morning, a twostorey house collapsed and a 70-year-old woman got trapped in the debris and sustained severe injuries.

She was also rushed to GTB Hospital in Delhi but was declared dead.

“On a complaint by the family, we have lodged an FIR against the house owner. The woman’s family rents the house. An FIR has been lodged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” Singh added.
