LUCKNOW: Now a a blood test can help predict diseases that for women in perimenopause stage (transition stage from pre to post menopause), are vulnerable to in future, such as cardiac disease, diabetes and hypertension.
The test has been developed on the basis of a study conducted on 590 women (half of whom were in premenopause stage) by Prof Vani Gupta of the department of physiology at the King George’s Medical University .
The study has been published in medical journals.
“Postmenopausal women are more prone to central obesity due to hormonal change but recent researches have shown that premenopausal women are also carry equal risk of central obesity and are prone to development of metabolic syndrome which leads to infertility, adiposity, insulin resistance, diabetes and endocrinological problems i,” said Prof Gupta.
Her study, she said, included Leptin and Adiponectin, the two hormone from the fat cells in the body which were tested via

blood samples.
Basically imbalance occurs in these hormones post menopause but starts in perimenopause stage (the transition stage for menopause), which is read via blood tests.
A similar study has been done corelating obesity but the researcher Dr Vani Gupta claimed connection with cardiac disease and hypertension for the first time.
“We are able to detect the imbalance in peri-menopause stage so preventive therapy, such as calcium for preventing osteoporosis, can be started to avoid the diseases in post menopause stage,” she said.
The diseases that can be avoided include cardiovascular problems, diabetes, osteoporosis and hypertension.
She said that women with central obesity after the age of 45 years should opt for the test.
