LUCKNOW At least 148 Lucknow police personnel were found missing from their duties due to different reasons.

The recent audit of the police force revealed that a number of personnel were missing for more than three months and some for over a year.

SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said at least 103 police personnel were found missing from different police stations and branches of the district police while 45 were missing from the reserve police lines itself. He said some of the absentees cited medical reasons and family problems while others were missing without mentioning any specific reasons and without informing the department.

He said most of the missing personnel were follower, driver, constable and head constable rank personnel.

The SSP said stern action would be taken against those missing without specific reasons, as it was violation of police service rules as well as indiscipline on behalf of an individual. He said the cases of only those missing due to acute illness would be considered while departmental inquiry would be ordered against all others. He said action ( like suspension) was likely against over 100 police personnel who were missing without mentioning any specific reason for being absent from work.

“Some missing personnel were found critically ill but some of the constables of merely 4-5 years of service were found missing without any reason. The list also included the constables who were transferred to other districts but were never relieved from Lucknow and

have been missing since then,” he said.

Naithani said notices were being issued to the missing personnel, seeking explanation.

He said the role of counting sections of the reserve police lines and different police stations was also being probed as it was not possible that a personnel remained absent without it coming to the notice of the counting section. He said there were also cases where the personnel got themselves attached to different sections other then the Lucknow police. He said SP (Rural) Gaurav Grover was supervising the audit and had been asked to deploy excess personnel at different places.

NAITHANI SAID NOTICES WERE BEING ISSUED TO THE MISSING PERSONNEL, SEEKING EXPLANATION.
