Allahabad to get its first emergency hospital for cows

ALLAHABAD: The Sangam City will soon get its first full-fledged emergency hospital-cum-shed for cows. To come up on over 8000 square metre area on Reewa Road in trans-Yamuna area, the prestigiou­s project is the brainchild of ISKCON (Internatio­nal Society of Krishna Consciousn­ess).

“While the hospital will ensure emergency medical care to cows hit by speeding trucks or vehicles on highways etc, the shed will provide care to cows, especially those abandoned by their owners,” said Venuvijay Das, vice president, ISKCON, Allahabad.

Besides old ailing and accident-hit cows, the treatment will also be provided to farm cows and those owned by farmers etc,” added Das.

“We have a good team of veterinary doctors associated with ISKCON. They will be asked to provide treatment to cows in the hospital. Once the project is complete and the hospital is establishe­d completely, we will appoint full time permanent staff,” said Das.

“The administra­tive body of the ISKCON met chief minister Yogi Adityanath to discuss the project recently. The CM has promised support from the government once the cow shed is completed and is registered,” said Das. The land earmarked for the project has been donated by Lord Krishna devotee Baljkrishn­a Pandey. temple to attend the birth anniversar­y celebratio­ns of Swami Shree Prabhupadj­i Maharaj, founder-acharya of ISKCON.

“We requested him to get install a transforme­r and submersibl­e pump at the proposed site for the hospital. We also requested for the broadening of the lane connecting the main road with the hospital. The MP assured that all this work would be done within a year’s time,” he added. While ISKCON is also running similar hospital-cum-cowshed in Vrindavan, for Allahabad and the adjoining region, this would be the first such hospital.

To begin with, the cow shed will keep at least 400 cows.
