LUCKNOW: Taking a dig at chief minister Yogi Adityanath over his recent ‘monkey menace’ comment, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav said the CM should scrap the tenders that the SP government had floated to tackle monkey menace and buy Hanuman Chalisa with the money instead and distribute it among people.

Yadav expressed these views at the meeting of Samajwadi Party Sainik Prakoshtha at party headquarters on Thursday.

The former CM said during his tenure tenders worth several crores were floated to tackle monkey menace in Mathura and Agra. “Still there is time. The chief minister should cancel those tenders, buy Hanuman Chalisa with the money saved and distribute Hanuman Chalisa among people.”

The CM had suggested people to pray to Lord Hanuman and recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ to tackle the monkey menace in Mathura on Friday last.

The SP chief also attacked the government over the organisa- tion of forthcoming Kumbh Mela and traced Kumbh’s origin to Kannauj, the seat he is likely to contest in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“The thing that Kannauj started, this government is following. It was Kannauj king Harshvardhan who started Kumbh. Kumbh is not something to which invitations are sent. People come to Kumbh on their own. But this government has started new things with Kumbh,” Yadav said.

He also said Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh will be very important for it was the most politically crucial state in the country. “That is why we are conducting more and more meetings like this on a daily basis so that when we go to public we are fully prepared with all issues,” he said.Attacking the BJP government in UP and at the Centre over SC/ST Act issue, Yadav said this (BJP) government will not let anyone live peacefully.

“First it troubled people with demonetisation and then with the GST. For them poverty or unemployment are not issues. Now, when the polls are coming close, they are making castes fight against one another,” Yogi’s predecessor said.
