LUCKNOW: As major political parties gear up their cadres and the opposition works out ‘grand alliance’ strategy, the Congress is yet to carry out its exercise to revamp the party in Uttar Pradesh.

A four-member committee is taking care of the day-to-day work for over two-months as the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee waits for the revamping exercise. “The UPCC will soon be acquiring a new look in preparation for the upcoming electoral challenges, especially the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the interim period, a team of (four) party leaders will oversee the day-to-day functioning of the UPCC headquarters in Lucknow,” was the official

announcement the party had made on June 21 after the party dissolved its administrative, finance and media wings.

UPCC chief Raj Babbar refused to comment on the issue.

A senior Congress leader aware of the developments on the UPCC revamping issue, however, said Babbar had already submitted a preliminary list for restruc- turing of the party. A section of party’s top leaders have favoured a slim party organization instead of constituting a jumbo sized UPCC yet again.

Babbar has held initial consultations on the issue and has urged the party’s bosses to allow a middle path by accommodating senior partymen at important positions.
