‘Exercise needed after knee replacement’
LUCKNOW : Exercise was an integral part of post-operative care for those who underwent knee replacement, said experts at the 4th Professor US Mishra Continued Medical Education Programme on total knee replacement organised by the Healthcity Trauma Centre and Superspeciality Hospital here on Friday.
“Exercise is essential and should be continued, initially, under the guidance of a physiotherapist and later, only if a person can learn, on one’s own. It must not be ignored,” said Dr Sandeep Kapoor, director of Healthcity and the convener of the event.
“Patients must also keep in touch with the surgeon through follow-ups. So, it is advisable to get knee replacement done in the city where one stays,” he said.
Dr Philip Hirst from Manchester, the United Kingdom, who was a guest faculty at the programme, said, “In UK, people get
operated at a place closest to their home town.”
“The reason is that follow-ups are easy, and even if there are any post-operative issues, they can be sorted out by the surgeon who performed the surgery,” added Dr Sandeep Garg, another director of Healthcity.
During the programme, a live operation session was conducted by Dr Kapoor and Dr Garg. Dr Hirst answered queries from the participating surgeons. About 50 orthopaedic surgeons attended the event.
