Hima to rest after hectic season, to skip IAAF Continenta­l Cup

NEW DELHI: Hima Das has pulled out of the IAAF Continenta­l Cup as the Athletics Federation of India has rested her after a hectic season which saw her become the junior world 400m champion.

Hima was initially among seven Indian athletes who were to take part in the season-ending IAAF event in Ostrava on September 8 and 9 .

ST JOHN’S EDGE SIGN SATNAM BHAMARA

MUMBAI: St. John’s Edge, a basketball club in Canada, on Friday announced the signing of Indian player Satnam Singh Bhamara for the upcoming season of NBL Canada.

In 2015, Singh became the first India born player to be drafted by an NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks’ affiliate the Texas Legends.

HARYANA BAG EIGHT GOLD IN SUB-JR BOXING

NAGPUR: Eight boxers from Haryana bagged gold medals as Devika Ghorpade of Maharashtr­a was adjudged the best boxer in the first sub-junior National Boxing Championsh­ips which concluded here Friday. Tamil Nadu’s M Loshini Mangesh defeated Nisha Singh from Haryana. The other four gold medal winners included two from Manipur and one each from Uttarakhan­d and Andhra Pradesh.
