Mud used to level land in several areas

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation has set a record of sorts by pulling out enough mud during its tunnelling work which may fill around 800 football stadiums. Managing director LMRC, Kumar Keshav said, “We dug up around 3.8 km area from Bapu Bhavan to KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium, in the most eco-friendly way.”

This high quality mud was used to level land of The Lucknow Development Authority and the Housing Board, apart from being used in several other areas for the same purpose.

To protect the environment and prevent finer particles of soil spreading in the air, the LMRC ensured that the mud was removed at night, covered with tarpaulin. The tyres of trucks were washed before they hit the road from the site and after dumping the mud at the site, said Keshav.

“You would not have found even a particle of mud on the road or in the air,” he said.

“We monitored the pollution levels before the digging started and this proved very helpful in controlling pollution near the construction site,” he said.

The mud was used to fill areas around Ikana stadium which would hold an international cricket match soon.It was also used near MB Club where the level of the road was lower than the main road. Areas in Vrindavan scheme of the housing board and plots of the LDA were also levelled using the same mud.

An official of the Housing Board said on condition of anonymity, “This is how the government departments should help each other. The LMRC has set a good example for every department to follow.”
